Within a preserved historic building, we created a modern 86 sqmt. living space for a French couple. While retaining the original public-facing fireplace, we cleverly integrated a new kitchen, bathroom, and storage, using movable furniture to accommodate both dual work and leisure. The design weaves together deep walnut wood, blue and white porcelain tiles, and French plaster moldings, creating an aesthetic dialogue between Chinese and French cultures. Smart lighting and hidden storage ensure a modern comfort is wrapped within the classical shell. Despite a strict budget of €100,000 and challenges from pandemic-related work stoppages and structural approvals, the project was delivered on schedule.
