This Shanghai villa project aims to create a custom-designed residence for a family of three that seamlessly blends Eastern elegance with modern comfort. The homeowners, a couple, are drawn to the refined and serene qualities of traditional Chinese design, while their daughter prefers the minimalist and elegant aesthetic of Japanese style. The core challenge of the design lies in how to incorporate the individual preferences of each family member within an overall Chinese-inspired framework, while ensuring that everyone has their own private space—including an independent study and relaxation area.

I achieved this by modernizing traditional Chinese elements, combining warm materials with the use of light and shadow to create a subtle yet profound Eastern aesthetic. Meanwhile, the daughter's private area is presented in a minimalist Japanese style with a touch of Zen. Beyond these private spaces, the design focuses on creating a spacious, bright, and multifunctional family interaction area and an elegant tea room, which will serve as a warm haven for family members to enjoy quality time together and engage in meaningful conversations.

Ultimately, this home is not only a continuation of Chinese aesthetic traditions but also a serene sanctuary that carries the emotional connections and individual expressions of the entire family.
